6th grade Concert HW

Comment on this post with an intro to one of the 3 songs we're singing at the concert. Good intros TELL THE AUDIENCE SOMETHING INTERESTING, such as the background of the artist/composer, a story about the song, insight into our process of learning the song, or something interesting to listen for when we sing the song. Alternate Homework option: Draw a beautiful cover for the program. Theme: The Time is Now!

  1. Our next song is called "Let It Grow" from the semi-new movie, The Lorax. So with the topic of "now" most of us thought we would be singing something that you would probably find on any pop radio station, well that didn't happen, and this is the closest to anything like that. At first, all the people who hadn't seen the movie thought of it as just a confusing song about how important trees are. But then a kid yelled out, "Hey, this is from The Lorax". most of us were still a little bit confused, but we went with and it turned out to be a great song. Listen for the part at the end were we break up into three parts, the sopranos, altos, and baritones, where we contrast perfectly. Thank you, and please enjoy "Let It Grow".

Our next song is called "Let it Grow" it relates to our theme "now" because this catchy tune is featured in the new movie, Dr. Suess's "The Lorax." The village "Thneedville," where the story takes place is an ugly neigborhood, that is anything but environmentaly friendly. In thneedville there are fake blow up trees and plants and citizens have to buy fresh air from a company called "Ohare Air" The manager of the company, "Ohare" is featured in this song. Ohare is sung by Jackson Bunis. One brave boy named Ted leaves thneedville and learns about theese things called "trees," and learns that they provide oxygyn. Ted finds one last seed and decides to bring it back to thneedville. Many citizens are interested in letting ACTUAL trees grow and provide oxygen. However Ohare does not like this idea because air will be free. What a concept! The citizens of Thneedville sing the song "Let it grow" about how maybe planting a tree in thneedville is a good idea. I would deffinetly recomend seeing the Lorax. Please enjoy "Let it Grow."

  4. Our next song is "Seize the Day." In the new musical "Newsies","Seize the Day" is featured in this song. The song starts out with a slow, yet triumphant. But as the song goes on, it becomes fun and exciting. In chorus, we had fun watching the movie,"Newsies" and really getting into the emotion of the song. Jack Feldman and Alan Menken wrote this song that you are about to hear. Listen to our beautiful harmonies and exquisite diction. Please enjoy,"Seize the Day"

  5. Next up, we have the song "Stand Upon the Rock." This song was composed by Rollo Dilworth, who is Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities and Music Education at the North Park University School of Music in Chicago. Rollo Dilworth is a composer, conductor, educator and clinician. In addition to that, he also researches African-American music. In fact, this song incorporates the African spiritual "O, Rocks Don't Fall on Me. Our chorus had a lot of fun learning this song, and we hope you'll have fun listening to it. So relax, and enjoy "Stand Upon the Rock".

The next song is from my favorite move of all time, The Lorax. We will be singing Let It Grow, a very happy song about the people Thneedvill wanting to plant a seed of a truffula tree. The Lorax is of Dr. Susses favorite of his books, its about the Once-ler telling the story of how the trees went missing, but the movie has a slightly different plot. The movie is much more expanded and is more about the boy Ted and Thneedvill relizing what is really importaint. In this scene Ted, one of the main characters is trying to convince the people of thneedvill to let the tree grow and help the people have good air. Ted finally convinces most of the people except for O'hare the antagonist of the story. Now everyone is singing about how they want the tree and want the fresh air. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

  8. Our next song is Stand Upon the Rock. The words and music are by Rollo Dilworth. This song incorporates the spiritual phrase "O Rocks, Don't Fall On Me." There is one song Stand Upon The Rock is based upon. Here is just a verse of that song.

Look over yonder on Jericho’s wall
Rocks and mountains, don’t fall on me
And see those sinners tremble and fall
Rocks and mountains, don’t fall on me

We had great fun learning this song. So please, sit back, relax and enjoy this inspirational song.
