Northern Harmony

Today we had a fantastic duo of workshops by Northern Harmony, the professional touring arm of Village Harmony!  During the day, all 140ish members of the 6th grade and 7th/8th grade choruses spent 90 minutes learning songs from South Africa and Croatia, as well as a lovely two part round in English at the end. (Ms A was VERY glad for some English by then, although her Croatian has improved 500%. From, well, zero.)

Dancing to a South African praise song (in praise of a music teacher- woo!) was tricky. The big sound of this Croatian tune was a different kind of challenge.  You can watch us learn this little tune in English, or skip to the 5' mark to hear it all together.

I was impressed by EVERYONE- the awesome performers, attentive Bigelow students, and the combined effort to keep 140 singers on track! (The former Bigelow student in the group is Evy- he is in a gray t-shirt)

In the afternoon, the Bigelow Beats and Troubadours had a more intimate workshop- maybe 30 singers. We learned this song from the Republic of Georgia, (I have only NH doing it but will add the students when Ms McIntosh sends me that link), a South African wedding song, and a Bulgarian song!

By the end of that,Ms A's brain was melted from learning so many languages, but it was  melted like chocolate fondue- full of gooey deliciousness! She can't wait for the Northern Harmony concert Friday at 7:30 at Grace Church, and all students are invited to come and sing! Admission is pay what you can- everyone's favorite price.
