6th Grade Homework

Your homework (Due Monday) is to write a comment, 3-6 sentences or so long, that would be a good introduction to a song we are singing. A good introduction tells the audience something about the song they would not know just from hearing it. Possible things to talk about in an introduction:

 -the composer's or lyricist's life
-the inspiration for the writing of the song
-interesting musical things in the song, like tricky rhythms, unusual harmony, word-painting, etc.
-interesting things in the lyrics, like alliteration, poem form, metaphor, etc.
-how we learned the song
-what you like about the song

Songs to choose from:
O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
Instructions I or III
Kang Ding
Oye
Vive L'amour

Post your answer in the COMMENTS. The first comment  is my example, so take a look at that if you need one.

Good luck!
Ms. A

  1. A Sample Introduction for Yellow Submarine (a song we're not doing, but a good example):

The song Yellow Submarine was written and recorded by The Beatles in 1966. Paul McCartney wrote the song to sung by drummer Ringo Starr, who was not much of a singer, so needed a melody with a narrow range. When practicing, we sometimes pretended to be submarines to get the mood of the song. Enjoy the joyful mood and, if you are inspired, sing along!

  4. Jim Papoulis' "Oye" is an upbeat song. This song's lyrics are written in Spanish, but there are some english words as well. We have created fun choreography to go along with the words. Some of our world language teachers, Ms. Calabria and Ms. Gao will be accompanying us with shakers. There are multiple singing and instrumental parts in this song, so be listening to try to see if you can hear them all! We have been working hard to put this piece together for a long time, and now it has reached perfection. Without further ado, the Bigelow 6th grade Chorus now presents "Oye"!

  6. "Oye", written by Jim Papoulis is a very fun song. It is very upbeat and has a tune that you can't help but tap your foot to. Learning this song was a lot of fun because it is such a fun and cheerful song! Together, we came up with some awesome choreography. What I found kind of odd was in the second verse there are less words to fill in the beats. But all in all, learning and practicing "Oye" was so much fun. And don't be shy to sing along to the chorus of "Oye"! So, without any more delay, the 6th grade chorus gives you "Oye"!

  16. Vive L'amour is a cheerful song that was originally written in French. However, we are going to be singing the verses in English and the chorus in French. This song is different from most songs we sing in chorus because we don't use harmony; We sing in unison the whole time. It's an especially fun one because whenever we sing it, we all start swaying and swinging our arms. I especially like this song because of how cheerful it is, and I know you'll enjoy it as much as I do!

  20. "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" is a traditional carol by Robert I. Huge. The original song is in English, but we are going to have some fun with it and do it in Latin. Even in a different language, you can tell when the song gets happy and high spirited. I hope you enjoy "O Come, O Come Emmanuel."

  21. Mary Goestzes' Instuctions is a very intense song. Our chorus had to brainstorm ideas of why Goestze's would start off the song with such power. Two of the many ideas we came up with were pouring rain and anger. See how the music makes you feel when we preform, "Intructions."
