7th/8th Grade Chorus HW

Comment on this post with an intro to one of the 3 songs we're singing at the concert. Good intros TELL THE AUDIENCE SOMETHING INTERESTING, such as the background of the artist/composer, a story about the song, insight into our process of learning the song, or something interesting to listen for when we sing the song. Alternate Homework option: Draw a beautiful cover for the program. Theme: The Time is Now!

  1. Our next song is Keep Your Head Up, by Andy Grammer. This song show Andy Grammer in a lot of unfortunate or awkward situations, but he comes through because he "keeps his head up". This song is by far my favorite because, well, it plays on the radio! It has a great message to it: Never give up because there is always hope, and, literally, keeping your head up is always the way to go!

  5. In a moment you will hear our next song, Object Lesson. This beautiful Spanish piece was written by a famous Mexican poet, Octavio Paz, and composed by a local New England musician, Matthew Harris. Harris and Paz have both won many awards for their work, including the Nobel Prize for Literature awarded to Paz in 1990 and the Composer Fellowship award given to Harris for the National Endowment for the Arts. This song was a challenge to master, as it was in a different language and the dynamics were specific and frequently changing. However, we pulled through and are ready to perform it for you. Enjoy Object Lesson!

  6. Our next song is "Stand Together" by Jim Papoulis. This piece is literally about standing together and fighting for your dreams. It's saying that you should always have someone beside you to go through challenges and obstacles. This song is very light and sweet with the different harmonies going on, supporting the main melody sung by the sopranos. I like this piece because I'm always "in the moment" whenever I sing it. I hope you enjoy "Stand Together" and find "the moment" as you're listening to it.

  7. The song "Keep Your Head Up" by Andy Grammer. This song delivers a clear message that there is hardships in life, but if we bravely face the challenge then we can surpass it.
So you always need to keep your head up and face the challenge. You might have heard of this on the radio because is one of the "nowadays" songs. Hope you enjoy!

  8. The song "Object Lesson" is very different from the other songs that we are singing. Well it is in Spanish. This song was based off the poem Leccion de cosas, about objects on a bookcase, written by Octavio Paz. There are several other songs that Matthew Harris composed based on this poem. This song describes how haunting a fruit tree, carved out of jade, can look at night. We hope you enjoy our performance.

  10. The song you will hear in a moment is called "Stand Together" composed by Jim Papoulis. This song was very fun to do. Everyone loved it and even fought over who got to sing which part. It is very upbeat and during the song, the three parts of our chorus will be singing different words and that is why this song is so amazing. Plus it sounds so cool! We hope you enjoy "Stand Together."

  13. Keep Your Head up is a pop song written by Andy Grammer. This song is very upbeat. It is a song about staying happy and keeping your head held high no matter how hard life is. We had a ton of fun working with this song because it is so popular and everybody knows it. We did change it around a little bit, so if you know the song, it may not sound exactly like you remember it. But we added some great harmonies and it really helps the song sound amazing! We hope you enjoy our version of Keep Your Head Up.

  14. Every year, Ms.Alberts has us sing a song by her favorite songwriter, Jim Papoulis. This year is no exception, as the next song we are going to be singing was written by him. This song is called "Stand Together." Jim papoulis likes to visit many schools, and this song was written with the help of the students from this school. This song was meant to have an irish vibe, and is a very upbeat and peppy song. We had a lot of fun rehearshing this song, and we hope you will have fun listening to it. Now, without further ado, the BIgelow 7yh/8th grade chorus presents, "Stand Together"

  15. Keep Your Head Up is the debut-single of Andy Grammer. This is very upbeat and pretty catchy. It was released on Valentine's Day of last year. I really like the harmonies for the song. Also this song is one of my favorites that we will perform tonight. We sorta did our own thing with this song so it sorta doesn't seem like the song you hear on the radio. I hope you enjoy Keep Your Head Up.

  16. Our next song is "Keep Your Head Up" by Andy Grammer. This song talks about rising above your challenges and thinking about a bright future. In the beginning of this song the atist is talking about his bills that are piling up which I think really symbolize his challenges that are piling up. But, then the artist has a change of thought and realizes that there are always things to look forward to in the future. The Bigelow 7th and 8th grade chorus presents to you "Keep Your Head Up"

  17. Jim Papoulis, a composer and producer and is one of Ms. Alberts's favorite composer. " Stand Together" by Jim Papoulis is not only our favorite song, but it is a song about keeping and working together with other people to get something done without a person having to do/ go through a hard time in their lives alone. We have spent so much time on this song and we have sung it like a bazillion times. We hope you like it as much as we do.

  19. This first song we're going to sing is called Object Lesson. The song is in spanish and is very lively. We try to have the different parts to the song have different feelings to it, so we call the beginning fall or summer, then we have a middle section that's more like winter, and then we come right back to the happy and upbeat spring. We've worked hard on getting the tone of this song just right and we hope you enjoy.

  20. Keep Your Head Up is a great, upbeat pop song. During this era of songs of depression, Ms.Alberts was able to find this song that was not so depressing but about hope for the future. The song seems to teach the moral that life is just a journey and that journeys always have something rewarding at the end. And of course, as a chorus, we had to add our own harmonies and twists to the song. So please "keep your head up" as we sing this next song that we have spent so much time in chorus trying to perfect our version of Keep Your Head Up.
